THE FOUR IN HAND KNOT
The Four in Hand Knot is probably used most often by today's man. It does not have the classic sophistication of the
Windsor knot. Slightly asymmetrical, the Four in Hand Knot is appropriate with a standard button-down dress shirt and is best suited for men with shorter necks as the narrow knot elongates the neck.
The
double knot is similar to the four in hand knot except that one makes two loops instead of one.
First button your shirt to the top. Flip the collar up.
1. Start with the wide end about a foot (or 3 buttons) below the narrow end. Remember the alignment in case you need to re-tie the knot. |
2. Take the wide end and loop it back underneath narrow end.
3. Wrap the wide end around the thin end and slip the wide end through the knot. |
4. Hold the front of the knot loosely with your index finger and bring wide end down through front loop.
Practice and it becomes simple.
