SEVEN FOLD TIES
The seven fold tie is the world’s most luxurious tie. For those out there interested in truly hand-made, top quality items, the Seven-Fold tie is the Rolls-Royce of neckwear. Machines cannot create a seven fold tie. They can only be crafted by the hand of a skilled tailor. Seven fold ties almost died out during the austerity of the Great Depression and the silk shortages during World War II and the ensuing civil war in China. And yet, over the last generation they have seen a remarkable come back.

Unlike ordinary ties, the seven fold tie is arguably the most elegant cravats available: fold two and a half yards of fine silk in on itself seven times until you have a tie that needs no lining and practically knots itself. This is more than 3 times the silk in an ordinary silk tie. The seven-fold is more than an extravagent amount of material. It is testament to craftsmanship. The silk (or in some cases cashmere) is meticulously pleated and then hand-stitched to hold together.
Labor intensity and quality of material drive the tie's high cost, but a seven-fold proves its value when properly worn. The lack of lining (beware the so-called seven-fold with a liner) allows the tie to knot without binding and creates an exquisite dimple that spreads luxuriantly down from the neck. It drapes perfectly and never takes on the awkward folds of a liner.
